Another Hedon Pub Goes Online

THE KING’S HEAD is on Facebook! Not only that, but the pub is actively promoting its Facebook Group through its resident DJ Marky Mark and his Karaoke screen. The new FB Group is actively asking customers to give their views about the place.

The King’s has had its share of ups-and-downs in the last 12 months, so this is good news for the pub and shows that they are willing to try out new  ideas. Find them on Facebook at The King’s Head, Hedon.

This is also good news to the Hedon Blogger – who used to spend his time moaning about the lack of online pubs in the town! Yes I know…I was sad! However things have really improved with both Haven Arms and Queens Head now having an online presence.

Crime Figures July to September 2010

THE LATEST CRIME statistics have been published by Humberside Police. These will be of particular interest as they are the last set of figures published before spending cuts, announced by the Government, will be implemented. The cuts will affect the delivery of police services in the region, and these figures published quarterly may give the first indications of any negative affects.

The level of crime in the South West Holderness ward area is described as “Average” by Humberside Police. The average number of crimes reported in the area for July – September 2010 was 51 which was a rise of 3.4% (from 49.3) compared with the same 3-month period last year.

Compared with July – September in 2009, the statistics for the same period for 2010 show that:

  • Burglary had decreased from 11 to 7
  • Vehicle crime had decreased from 4.7 to 3.7
  • Violent crime had increased from 6 to 8.3
  • Anti-social behaviour had decreased from 38 to 29.3

In addition to the above figures, the police reported to a recent Hedon Town Council meeting that specific crime statistics for the town show that the police received 98 calls for service in September 2010, which included reports of anti-social behaviour, burglary, assault, theft of a vehicle and criminal damage.

It will be interesting to see the next quarterly crime figures published by Humberside Police for October to December and begin the job of assessing the impact – if any – of the cuts in public spending on crime rates.

Spurn Ranger Service ending for the current year

EYMS Spurn Ranger

THE SPURN RANGER, bus number 73 run by East Yorkshire Motor Services to the isolated Holderness beauty spot of Spurn Point, will make its last journey on Sunday October 31st.

The Ranger, which also serves villages between Withernsea and Spurn including Patrington, Easington and Kilnsea, carried up to 450 people a month during summer.

But never fear! The service is expected to start again on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from next Easter 2011

News Weatherman to launch new local Learning Centre

BBC LOOK NORTH weatherman Paul Hudson is visiting the local area next month.

Paul will be giving a speech on ‘Climate Change’ at a launching event of South Holderness Technology College’s new Renewable Energy Learning Centre.

The new learning centre is a specifically equipped room based at the college to teach the importance of renewable energy. The facility will be open on Mondays to primary and secondary school visits from across the area.

As well as being an experienced weather forecaster, Paul Hudson is an expert on climate change. He is also the honorary Mayor of Wetwang in the Yorkshire Wolds! However, Paul, is probably as famous for his jovial competitive banter with news anchorman Peter Levy on the Look North programme.
