Haiti Earthquake Appeal

A DEVASTATING 7.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE has hit Haiti, including the densely populated capital Port-Au-Prince and the surrounding area.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, greatly increasing the risk that people will suffer or die in the aftermath of this natural disaster.

Hedon Park and Ride Planning Application

THE PARK AND RIDE proposed by Hull City Council for the former Hedon Airfield site has now reached the Outline Planning Application stage and will be considered by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Planning process.

A consultation event was held on the 15th July the findings (PDF file) of which concluded that an overwhelming majority agreed with the principle of a Park and Ride facility and its proposed location.

The proposed development will have 650 car parking spaces and will be accessible via a new roundabout built on Hull Road.

Find the documentation relating to the Planning Application (which includes transport, habitat and flood impact assessments on the East Riding Council’s Public Access planning website (Planning Reference 09/05083/STOUT).

Hedon Police Forum

HUMBERSIDE POLICE AUTHORITY are staging another Police and Partners Community Forum in Hedon.

The open public meeting takes place on Wednesday 10th February 2010 at the Town Hall, 7pm.

Burstwick flood defence gets go-ahead

RESIDENTS IN BURSTWICK area are being told this week that the planning application for the construction of Skeckling Drain flood embankment has succeeded.

The application, granted on 14 January, was the third and final one for the Burstwick scheme and will involve constructing a flood embankment alongside Skeckling Drain behind Burstwick Primary School that will reduce the potential for floodwater flowing overland from Burstwick Drain and entering Burstwick.

Forensic Science Course in Hedon

HOLDERNESS GRANGE COUNTRY CLUB, Draper’s Lane, Hedon is once again the venue for a one-day course on Forensic Science.

The short introductory course takes place on Saturday February 6th 2010 from 10am – 4pm and provides practical “hands on” experience in the identification of skeletal remains and pathology. The course costs £50.

Flood Watch for the Holderness Area

Issued Sunday 17 January 2010 at 08:50 by the Environment Agency

A Flood Watch has been issued for the Holderness Area including Including Carnaby, Barmston, Hornsea, Skirlaugh, Burton Pidsea, Hedon, Burstwick, Thorngumbald, Keyingham, Saltend, Patrington, Skeffling, Sunk Island and Kilnsea. area. Flooding of low-lying land and roads is expected. Be aware. Be prepared. Watch out!

The area of concern is Burstwick Drain as high tides are preventing full drainage of the system. Levels will remain high throughout today and tomorrow however no further heavy rainfall is forcast.
