Christmas Eve

A MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE to all readers of the Hedon Blog! It might seem strange issuing this greeting today (rather than Christmas Day), but for many people this evening is traditionally the start of Christmas.

Lots of information about Christmas traditions can be found over at Netmums.com. The parenting website has just about got Christmas covered!

If you have children, or are a Christmas child at heart, then you might like the idea below: Click the image, open the PDF (portable document file) and print out the Gift Tags below. Colour them in and cut out the small circle to put your string through.

Of course Christmas is not for everybody – and can actually be quite a sad and lonely time for some. Have a look at the Netmum’s page on Coping with Christmas.

Why Wait for Christmas to Celebrate Christmas Messages?

CHRISTMAS DAY is traditionally associated with the “Queens Speech” during which Queen Elizabeth gives her comments and observations about topical subjects. But it is not just the monarch who gives us the benefit of her insight at this time of year.

Photo Banner

CAN YOU CAPTURE our historic and beautiful town in photographs? Can you sum-up Hedon in an image?

This is the challenge set by the Hedon Blog to photographers and snappers in the town! This community website needs a new banner to head its pages.

The new banner will aim to do a better job than the current one  in representing the town’s history, character and pride. And we need your photos to create the new banner.

E-mail your images to the Hedon Blog at hedonblog@gmx.com

Funding available for activities for 13 – 19 year olds

TWO FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE in the East Riding to support activities and projects for young people. And unlike lots of other funding programmes, these two funding schemes are directly influenced by young people.

The Youth Opportunity Fund puts money into the hands of young people to help them decide about what activities they want to do. Young people manage the fund. The YOF could be used for employing coaches, booking transport, paying entrance fees, booking halls for activities, etc.

The Youth Capital Fund will be used to improve and develop facilities for young people, with young people steering the use of resources. The YCF is for larger projects, which could include building new facilities, refurbishment or alternative youth projects, which will impact on large groups of young people.
