The Hedon Wish List

Hedon Wish List 2010 with The Hedon Blog

“Imagine the kind of place we want Hedon to be!”

THE HEDON BLOG wants to grow an online conversation about the town. That conversation can cover everything that matters to local people and can be shared with the rest of the world via the internet.

This campaign will aim to generate a Town Wish List. This will list all ideas that people have for making Hedon a better place to live and work in.

The Wish List will reflect individual ambitions and constructive proposals for the town. Let’s imagine the kind of place we want Hedon to be!

The Wish List should not be a list of negatives: If you know of a problem, then what is a possible answer? You can be as imaginative as you like.

Examples:

A town that doesn’t have dangerous traffic going through its centre!

  • Traffic calming measures
  • Community speed watch
  • More safer crossing areas

More things for young people to do!

  • Extend the Youth Club opening times
  • Speak to young people about what they want and would use

Once we have developed the wish list, we will prioritise it into realistic actions that can be tackled now, sooner or later. We will look at the actions that need to take place in order to make the priorities happen! And who can help us achieve some of these: Councils, MPs, NHS, business, voluntary organisations, etc?

The Wish List will open for ideas on Tuesday 1st December 2009 and will close on Sunday 31st January 2010.

You can take part in generating the Hedon Wish List 2010 by visiting The Hedon Blog between those dates.

MP’s Street Surgery in Hedon

Meet your MP

BEVERLEY AND HOLDERNESS MP, Graham Stuart, is to hold one of his popular street surgeries in Hedon Market Place on Saturday 5th December 2009. It will start at 10:30am to 12:00 noon (weather permitting).

These surgeries are an opportunity to meet your local Member of Parliament and raise any local issues of concern with him.

Find out about your local MP via his own website www.grahamstuart.com or through www.TheyWorkForYou.com

Do you want to ask Graham Stuart a question? Then Yoosk has developed a facility or ‘widget’ for connecting MPs to the public via community websites. Unfortunately this does not work on The Hedon Blog but you can view and interact with the widget over at the Hedon Blogger’s own Blog at http://smrweb.blogspot.com/

Christmas Starts in Hedon

CHRISTMAS OFFICIALLY STARTED in Hedon last night as Hundreds turned out to see the town Christmas tree lit up by the Town Mayor. Cllr Ann Suggitt was helped by a white-beared gentleman with a red coat who said in a local accent “Hedon’s great at Christmas!”. After doing his duty this gentleman miraculously melted into the crowd and later turned up in Nutmegs window! (See picture).

Special stalls lined the traffic-free street and turned the town centre into a Christmas market for the night.

It was a great night but perhaps the sound system could be a bit better next year, the host speaker, the Mayor and Santa were all difficult to hear in the winter wind.

Patient opinions improve local NHS

IMPROVING YOUR LOCAL N.H.S. (National Health Service) and the services it provides is in all our interests. Everyone at some stage in their lives will need the help of the N.H.S.

Patient Opinion is a service that uses your experiences and stories of using health services in order to help other patients and bring about improvements. By simply sharing your opinion on what was good and what could have been better can have a dramatic affect on services.

You can view what others are saying about your local hospitals and health services. But importantly you can very easily add your story, compliment, concern or experience of a particular service in four quick and easy steps.
