HOTI – The Hull and Holderness Opposing The Incinerator group – are also planning a legal challenge to the granting of a permit to incinerator operators WRG (Waste Recycling Group). However, if the legal challenge fails then HOTI may end up having to pay up to £20,000 in legal costs. Therefore the group is establishing a bondholders scheme and asking supporters to raise money to cover these possible costs.
Further details of the proposed activities will be discussed at HOTI’s next meeting which takes place on Friday September 11th 2009, 7:30pm at the Alexandra Hall.

We can expect a warm summer welcome at Hedon’s main Hull Road Co-operative store during the coming August Bank Holiday.
The store will be raising money for the Co-op’s chosen charity the RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf people) and staff will be getting into the holiday spirit by wearing “shorts, shades, sombreros and sarongs” according to the Hull Daily Mail.
Sounds like just the place to buy your summer sun lotions!

Jonathan Andrew Young, 18, of the 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington’s), was killed in Afghanistan on Thursday 20th August.
Jonathan, along with Sgt Paul McAlees, was killed following two explosions that happened while both men were on a foot patrol in Sangin District, Helmand Province on Thursday morning.
My heart goes out to family friends Angie his Mam, Carl his brother, Mike his Dad, Fred and Val his grandparents, Uncle Andrew, Aunties Tina and Debbie.
I knew Jonathan when he was little but met him again last summer just before he joined his regiment and had a drink with him and his grandad. He was a smashing lad who represented the very best of his family and his city.
Comments from Johnathan’s comrades and commanding officers can be found at the Ministry of Defence News statement.
His Mam and family said:
“John was so handsome. He was a good son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and boyfriend. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. We were so proud of our John, he was our brave heart, our Johnny Bravo. Night night Johnny Bravo.”
Jonathan’s friends have set up two facebook pages for him at:

Local East Yorkshire Farmer Mark Evison suffered an anaphylactic shock after being repeatedly stung by wasps on his chest and face last Sunday. Mr Evison disturbed a wasps nest while using a strimmer to cut grass on farmland near Ellerker. Despite efforts of an ambulance crew to revive him he died.
Wasps can become a nuisance, particularly in late summer when they feed on fruit and other sweet materials. However, they get aggressive when their nests are disturbed. When these nests are close to where people or animals regularly live, work or pass by then they may cause a risk.
However, never attempt to destroy a colony yourself. If you find a nest, keep well away. There can be several thousand workers in a fully-formed colony and ALL OF THEM CAN STING! It is far more sensible, and safer, to call in an expert.
Contact your Local Council or a reputable pest-control firm or consultant.
I hate wasps! They scare, worry and irritate me! Especially when eating food outside. However it must be remembered that they are not all bad. They are carnivorous and will prey upon other insects which eat your garden plants. So it can actually be beneficial to leave wasp nests undisturbed and encourage the natural control of pests and reduce the need for insecticides in your garden.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Local Involvement Network (ERYLINk) is a network of local people, organisations and groups who have joined to improve local health and social care services.
The organisation is now looking to elect a permanent Steering Group to drive the organisation forward. Hopefully there are some good folk from Hedon involved in LINk who will keep the Hedon Blog informed of LINk activities?
Please visit the ERY LINk website to find out more.
