Like many people born in the Hull area I have links to the fishing industry in Hull; my grandad Skadge Hardy was an engineer on many Hull Trawlers. Therefore I was delighted to read in the Hull Mail of the MBE award announced in the New Year honours list to local author and historian Alec Gill and the fact that Alec has now received his award and dedicated it to the fishing families of Hull who he has researched for 35 years.
Alec interviewed my grandparents for his book SUPERSTITIONS about the taboos and local folklore associated with the Hull fishing industry. Indeed two photos of my grandad appear in the book.
So congratulations Alec – and thank you!
